The Big 3

Preview

I had an epic night out with my homegirls this past week. The last time this happened it was over a year ago, and I’m honestly proud of myself for saying “yes” to going out.

We went to a bar called “Brennan’s”, where they host turtle races every 3rd Thursday of the month. Once we were there, I decided that us as a group needed to complete 3 “tasks” by the end of the night. I wanted to do this because it’s so easy for us to go out, make small talk, and just see where the night takes us. It’s also so easy to have this night out look like every other night out, and not make a staple in our lives.

With that said, I chose the 3 tasks to be completed.

Task #1: Somebody from the group has to rap.

Task #2: Somebody from the group has to dance battle a stranger.

Task #3: Somebody from the group has to sit in with the band.

By the end of the night, I had completed all 3 tasks solo. Lol. I had the time of my life, and it was awesome to share these moments with my friends.

The outcome of winning the spontaneous rap competition? We won 1 pitcher of beer.

The outcome of dance battling a stranger? I lost. Terribly.

The outcome of sitting in with the band? I met some really incredible musicians, who I am now connected with and who want to actively help donate instruments for kids with Music and Mindfulness.

As the week went on, I really wondered about how drastically different our lives could be if we started living like this in our everyday lives. Instead of waiting for the good time or opportunities to show up for us, we set 3 impactful, intentional moves to create it for ourselves. Instead of waiting for someone to ask us how we’re doing, we picked up the phone to call them and tell them how important it is to us that they ask, share how we’re doing, and put a date on the calendar to connect again. Sometimes, it’s like we wait all our lives for people or circumstances to change, without really stepping outside of our comfort zone to make those changes.

This week, let’s be intentional. Let’s choose our big 3. Let’s make life happen.

You deserve it.

With Love,

Mama Shye
